San Antonio Spurs to build 50-acre development near on the Northside

Spurs Sports and Entertainment unveiled plans to build a 50-acre state-of-the-art training and practice facility on the Northside of San Antonio near La Cantera.

The space will consist of the training facility for the Spurs as well as medical, research offices, retail, a park and community space.

R.C. Buford, the CEO of Spurs Sports and Entertainment had made the presentation this morning (August 11, 2021) at the Bexar County Commissioner’s Court.

โ€œThe Human Performance Campus is an exciting part of our collective future โ€“ for our city, our community and Spurs Sports & Entertainment,โ€ said Spurs Sports & Entertainment CEO RC Buford. โ€œOver the last five decades, San Antonio and the Spurs have developed and grown together in amazing ways. We believe this project continues that tradition and will have an impact locally, regionally and nationally.โ€

The new development will be called the Human Performance Campus that will include many features for both the Spurs and the public to enjoy.

The 504,000 square-foot campus will come at the tune of a cool $510.8 million from primarily private investors. However, SSE executives made their appearance in court today to seek $15 million project contribution from Bexar Country in return they will get a 22-acre park for the public and outdoor activities.

This greenspace will expand the area’s existing walking and biking trails and also to have the largest dog park in Bexar County.

This complex will replace the Spurs’ organizations current complex off of Huebner Road in the Medical Center.

It has been said that the site will employ 1,700 full-time people with the expectation that the site will be used 365 days for both community events and gatherings.

Ground breaking is expected to take place in October 2021.

This is another example that the Spurs are committed to staying in San Antonio for the long haul despite accusations of moving elsewhere.

โ€œThis is our collaborative vision over many months and many years,โ€ said Perez. โ€œThis location becomes our home and our place that we are putting our flag in the ground for decades. With this support, we believe that answers this question.โ€
