More than 150 people at the Williamson-Dickie Manufacturing textiles plant in Uvalde, Texas were notified that they will be laid off. The Vice President of the company, Joe Raines had told the Texas Workforce Commission on August 9th that they will be moving their operations to Mexico and Honduras in October.
The Uvalde plant was the last plant remaining in the United States said Mayor of Uvalde, Donald McLaughlin. The plant had been in business since 1956.
A company spokesperson stated that they will try to make the transition smooth for their workers with severance and job assistance.
Note: Uvalde is 85 miles from San Antonio.
