What you need to know about Texas’ Tax Free holiday weekend

Texas Tax Free Holiday Weekend has begun Friday morning and that means shoppers will be out in numbers. Those who take advantage of the sales tax pause this weekend can save money on clothes and school supplies August 5th through 7th. So, crunching the numbers that is about $8 saved out of $100 spent on qualifying items.

Jewelry, handbags, purses, watches, umbrellas, wallets, briefcases, gym bags and specialized clothing that is altered like embroidery don’t count towards the tax-exempt.

So the question many ask is: What can I get?

The law exempts tax from most clothing, footwear, school supplies, face masks, and backpacks that are priced under $100. Oh, the comptroller even said that this year costumes are part of the tax free weekend.

Sorry, electronics, computers, computer accessories, smart phones, tablets, smart watches do not qualify under the tax free weekend.
