VIA to offer free rides to César E. Chávez March

Each year thousands of people attend the César E. Chávez March which is co-sponsored by the César E. Chávez Legacy & Educational Foundation (CECLEF) and The City of San Antonio. This year marks the very first time that free rides have been available during the life of the 23-year event.

On Saturday, March 30th, catch a free ride on a VIA anytime between 8am and 10am from the downtown UTSA parking lots on Dolorosa Street at Pecos La Trinidad and also from the Alamodome’s parking lot B and C off of Cherry Street.

Return service runs until 3pm leaving from Old Bowie Street near the Institute of Texan Cultures at gate 4.

This year’s theme is Voices and Votes for Education, Social Justice and Equality. People from all over the city whether it be individuals, organizations, university diversity groups, and non-profit organizations.

This year Texas A&M University at San Antonio President, Dr. Cynthia Teniente-Matson will be serving as the Honorary Grand Marshal and Cesar Luis Chávez, the grandson of the late César E. Chávez will be the Grand Marshal.

Those attending are encouraged to bring in non-perishable canned goods to benefit the San Antonio Food Bank. Items can be dropped off at 723 S. Brazos.
