VIA Announces Route Improvements to Reduce Wait Times Starting April 14

Better Bus Plan rolls out updates to keep San Antonio moving faster and more efficiently
SAN ANTONIO, TX (April 11, 2025) – Beginning Monday, April 14, VIA Metropolitan Transit will introduce a new round of route improvements designed to shorten wait times and enhance overall service reliability across San Antonio. These changes are part of VIA’s ongoing Better Bus Plan, aimed at streamlining routes and making public transit more accessible for riders throughout the city.
The updates include more frequent weekday and weekend service on select routes, plus changes to downtown routing that help reduce travel time and congestion.

🔄 Downtown Route Adjustments
In an effort to optimize downtown service and reduce overlap, several routes will be reassigned:
-
Route 14 will travel through downtown via Route 66 instead of Route 44.
-
Route 20 will shift to travel downtown using the path of Route 68, not Route 26.
-
Route 26 will now go through downtown as Route 44, replacing Route 20’s previous pattern.
Additionally, Routes 4, 28, 42, 76, and 509 will see minor schedule adjustments to improve efficiency and synchronization across the network.
📈 A Step Toward a Better Bus System
The April 14 changes are a continued investment in VIA’s Better Bus Plan, a long-term strategy to create a more reliable, frequent, and connected transit system for the region.
Passengers are encouraged to review the changes ahead of time and check updated schedules on the VIA website or mobile app. VIA also offers bilingual support to ensure all riders stay informed about updates that may affect their routes.
