UTSA Athletics to Break Ground on $35 Million Basketball and Volleyball Training Facility on December 18

UTSA Athletics is set to take another major step forward with the groundbreaking of its new Basketball and Volleyball Training Facility on Wednesday, December 18, 2024. This state-of-the-art, 53,000-square-foot facility will support the university’s men’s and women’s basketball and volleyball programs, marking a milestone in UTSA’s ongoing commitment to excellence in athletics.
The facility, which comes with a price tag exceeding $35 million, will be located adjacent to the Roadrunner Athletics Center of Excellence (RACE) on Barshop Boulevard. The new complex will streamline daily operations for the university’s basketball and volleyball teams, providing them with modern training amenities and enhancing their overall competitiveness.
Cutting-Edge Features and Design
The facility will include:
- Two full-sized NCAA practice courts
- Locker rooms and team lounges for each program
- Weight room and athletic training/hydrotherapy spaces
- Team meeting rooms
- Coaches’ offices for all three sports
Designed by the architecture firm Populous and constructed by Skanska USA Inc, the facility will offer 24-hour access to practice courts and state-of-the-art resources to enhance training, recovery, and preparation for competition.
Community Collaboration and Support
This project is the result of a collaborative effort between UTSA, Bexar County, and the City of San Antonio, with each contributing $5 million toward the facility. The funding agreement mirrors the successful partnerships seen in the development of the Roadrunner Athletics Center of Excellence and the Park West Fieldhouse.
