San Antonio, TX — As part of the Texas Department of Transportation’s (TxDOT) ongoing Loop 1604 North Expansion project, both the eastbound and westbound main lanes of Loop 1604 at Blanco Road in north central San Antonio will be closed this weekend to facilitate the demolition of the original Blanco Road bridge. Both directions of Blanco Road over Loop 1604 will also be closed.

The closures are scheduled to begin at 9 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 8, and will remain in effect until 5 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 11, weather permitting. During this time, crews will demolish the old bridge structure to make way for continued intersection improvements, while traffic on the new Blanco Road bridge, which opened last weekend, will resume once the demolition is complete.

Detour Information

TxDOT has provided detailed detour routes to assist drivers during the closures:

  • Loop 1604 Eastbound and Westbound: Drivers on the main lanes of Loop 1604 will exit at the Blanco Road ramp, travel along the frontage roads, and re-enter Loop 1604 via the Blanco Road entrance ramps.
  • Blanco Road Northbound: Northbound travelers will access the Loop 1604 eastbound frontage road, make a turnaround at Stone Oak Parkway, and continue along the westbound frontage road back to Blanco Road.
  • Blanco Road Southbound: Southbound travelers will take the Loop 1604 westbound frontage road, turn around at Huebner Road, and return along the eastbound frontage road to Blanco Road.

Project Updates and Access to Businesses

TxDOT has taken measures to ensure that business access remains available during the construction period, and law enforcement will be present to manage traffic at key intersections. Road closures are subject to open early if work is completed ahead of schedule and the roads are deemed safe for travel.

For project updates, closure information, and real-time traffic details, drivers are encouraged to check the latest information on TxDOT’s websites or subscribe to project notifications. TxDOT reminds the public that closures and schedules are weather-dependent and subject to change.
