San Antonio, TX (November 12, 2024) – As part of the ongoing Loop 1604 North Expansion Project, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) has announced significant closures at the I-10 and Loop 1604 interchange for the weekend of November 15-18, 2024. The closures will facilitate flyover ramp construction, including the installation of steel beams, with work scheduled to take place from 9 p.m. Friday, November 15, through 5 a.m. Monday, November 18, weather permitting.

The closures are expected to impact eastbound and westbound traffic on I-10 and portions of Loop 1604. While the Loop 1604 eastbound mainlanes will be closed Friday night only, Loop 1604 will remain open Saturday through Monday morning.

Closure Details

The following areas will be affected during the construction period:

I-10 Eastbound and Westbound Mainlanes at the Loop 1604 interchange.
Loop 1604 Eastbound Mainlanes between Vance Jackson Road exit ramp and Lockhill Selma Road entrance ramp (Friday night only).
I-10 Collector-Distributor Roads, cloverleaf ramps, and select frontage roads at the interchange.
Exit Ramps including I-10 eastbound south of La Cantera Parkway (Exit 556B) and I-10 westbound to Loop 1604 eastbound.

Construction Progress

Crews have completed 76% of the steel beam installation, with 115 beams already in place. The first flyover ramp—connecting eastbound Loop 1604 to westbound I-10—is on track to open by the end of the year.

For I-10 Eastbound to Loop 1604 Eastbound: Travelers will use the I-10 eastbound mainlanes, take the turnaround at La Cantera Parkway, and follow signage to reach their destination.
For I-10 Westbound to Loop 1604 Westbound: Drivers will use the westbound frontage road and the La Cantera Parkway turnaround to re-enter I-10 or Loop 1604.

Additional detours and signage will guide travelers through the interchange area.

Looking Ahead

As work progresses, more weekend closures are anticipated to facilitate additional construction on the interchange’s flyover ramps. However, major construction closures will be paused between Thanksgiving and the end of the year to minimize disruptions during the holiday season.
