SAN ANTONIO (August 7, 2025) — The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) will implement two consecutive overnight closures on I-35 northbound this week as part of the I-35 Northeast Expansion (NEX) Program. The work will require full mainlane closures at key points along the corridor.
Thursday, August 8 – Column Cap Installation at Loop 1604
From 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., all northbound I-35 mainlanes and the northbound distributor ramp at Loop 1604 will be closed for column cap installation.

EB Loop 1604 Detour: All traffic must use the Pat Booker Road exit to access the NB I-35 frontage road, continue north to the EB Loop 1604 frontage road, then use the turnaround to access the WB Loop 1604 frontage road and re-enter the WB Loop 1604 mainlanes.

NB I-35 Detour: All traffic must use the Pat Booker Road exit to access the NB I-35 frontage road, continue north to the EB Loop 1604 frontage road, then use the turnaround to access the WB Loop 1604 frontage road and re-enter NB I-35.

SB I-35 to EB Loop 1604 Detour: All traffic must use the Pat Booker Road exit to access the NB I-35 frontage road, continue north to the EB Loop 1604 frontage road, then continue through the intersection and use the next entrance ramp to enter EB Loop 1604.
Friday, August 9 – Bridge Beam Installation from Olympia Parkway to Evans Road
From 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., the northbound I-35 mainlanes from Olympia Parkway to Evans Road will be closed for bridge beam installation.
Detour:

All NB I-35 traffic should exit at Olympia Parkway (EXIT 173), continue on the NB I-35 frontage road, and use the next available entrance ramp to return to the mainlanes.
TxDOT advises all drivers to expect delays, follow posted detours, and use caution when traveling through construction zones. All closures are subject to change and weather permitting.
