After one season, it has been reported that Tim Duncan will be stepping away from coaching full-time and won’t be making any appearances with the Spurs in the 2020/21 season.
Marc Stein of the New York Times had made the report and we’re unclear of why the Hall of Famer won’t be assisting in coaching the NBA team any further.
Duncan had retired in 2016 and had won five championships with the Spurs during his tenure over 19 seasons with the Spurs.
Becky Hammon, Will Hardy, Chip Engelland and Mitch Johnson will still remain under the guidance of Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich as assistant coaches coming into the new season. The Spurs have not yet named a replacement for Duncan.
We will continue to monitor this developing story.
San Antonio's internal belief was always a one-year stint on the bench for Duncan, who is expected to return to his previous post-retirement role in which he made frequent appearances at the team's practice facility to provide various Spurs with player development assistance
