Taco Bell’s TBX Program to Feature San Antonio Chef Jennifer Hwa Dobbertin

In an exciting culinary collaboration, San Antonio-based chef Jennifer Hwa Dobbertin of Best Quality Daughter has been selected as one of three chefs for Taco Bell’s TBX program in 2024. The newly launched TBX program aims to support and connect emerging culinary talent from across the nation, providing a platform for chefs to co-create and bring fresh cultural perspectives to the world of tacos.

Chef Dobbertin, a nominee for the 2024 James Beard Awards, stands out as the only woman and Texan selected for the inaugural TBX program. Alongside chefs Reuben Asaram from Philadelphia and Lawrence Smith from Phoenix, she will lead the way in reimagining the iconic Crunchwrap Supreme, a fan-favorite at Taco Bell.

The TBX program, unveiled at Taco Bell’s inaugural Live Más LIVE event in Las Vegas, offers winning chefs a unique opportunity to contribute to Taco Bell’s menu, receive free Taco Bell, limited-edition merchandise, and potentially co-create menu items. The program’s motto is “their thing + our thing = a whole new kind of thing,” emphasizing the fusion of diverse culinary perspectives.

Taco Bell Global Chief Food Innovation Officer, Liz Matthews, expressed the brand’s excitement, stating, “Our goal with the TBX program is to both shine a light on incredible culinary talent, as well as bring a wider range of flavors, cuisine, and inspiration to Taco Bell’s menu.”

Chef Dobbertin, known for her commitment to Asian-American cuisine with South Texas influence, expressed her honor at being part of the TBX program. A devoted Taco Bell fan, she brings her unique culinary vision to the remixing of the Crunchwrap Supreme, promising a delightful twist that reflects the vibrant San Antonio culinary scene.

The Crunchwrap Supreme, introduced in 2005, has become a cultural phenomenon and fan favorite, inspiring millions on TikTok and beyond. This year, select Taco Bell locations will feature completely reimagined Crunchwrap Supremes, thanks to the creative contributions of the TBX program’s inaugural chefs.

Chefs interested in joining future rounds of the TBX program can apply by sharing their culinary background and explaining why they are a perfect fit for TBX at www.TacoBell.com/tbx. Selected chefs will not only enjoy free Taco Bell but also exclusive swag and potential opportunities for future collaborations with the brand. The TBX program stands as a testament to Taco Bell’s commitment to innovation and the celebration of diverse culinary talents from around the nation.
