Spurs Sports Academy is going virtual starting June 1st

Beginning June 1, the Spurs Sports Academy will be offering free virtual basketball clinics for children. Young people will be getting advice on how to improve their basketball skills while maintaining social distancing due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The clinic will last two-weeks and available for children 6 to 14. The virtual session will provide instruction to the young athletes learn the fundamentals of the game.

“While we anxiously await to safely return on the court, and see our new and returning campers, we are excited to roll out a new virtual way to connect and engage with our young athletes,” said Joe Clark, Vice President of Youth Sports and Fan Experience at Spurs Sports & Entertainment. “We hope this new platform will enable them to remain active while homebound.”

The drills will be both live and recorded sessions according to the press release.

The SSA will have guest appearances by Spurs Assistant Coach Will Hardy, Matt Bonner and Sean Elliott who are former Spurs and current TV analysts.

Registration is free online but participants are encouraged to make a donation to the Spurs Give Together Fund to help families hit directly by the COVID-19 pandemic towards first responders and local commerce.
