SAN ANTONIO (Sept. 4, 2025) โ The San Pedro Branch Library, San Antonioโs first purpose-built library branch, is marking its 95th anniversary with a celebration that takes visitors back to the 1930s. The event takes place on Saturday, Sept. 6, 2025, at 1315 San Pedro Ave., beginning with a special ceremony at 10:30 a.m. followed by family-friendly activities until 12:30 p.m.
Guests can enjoy a taste of the past with vintage crafts such as paper dolls and flyable kites, along with classic tabletop toys and other activities inspired by the era. Giveaways and themed fun will make the celebration accessible for all ages.
The San Pedro Branch first opened its doors in August 1930, designed by renowned father-and-son architects Atlee and Robert Ayres. Nestled along historic San Pedro Springs Park, the Spanish-style building features vaulted ceilings and signature archways, and underwent a major renovation in 2007 that restored much of its original character.
Library leaders say the anniversary honors not only the buildingโs rich architectural history but also its role as a cornerstone of the San Antonio Public Library system.
More details about the 95th Anniversary Celebration are available on the San Antonio Public Libraryโs events calendar. For general information about SAPL, including locations and services, visit the libraryโs website or call 210-207-2500.
