San Antonio’s own version of Monopoly is out now

San Antonio Monopoly

Revealed at the infamous Menger Hotel downtown San Antonio surrounded by city officials and Rich Uncle Pennybags himself, was the formal launch of San Antonio’s very own customized Monopoly set.

The game is uniquely fit to the city with famous landmarks that fits the Alamo City well. Top Trumps had licenced the game from Hasbro and has also made boards for cities in the United States such as Cambridge, MA and Greenwich, CT. San Antonio was the largest launch so far yet.

The game plays just like the original. There’s still the classic “Go, Jail, Free Parking and Go to Jail” areas as well as Chance and Community Chest cards. Watch out for those Income Tax and Luxury Tax spots that’ll take your color coded Monopoly money.

There is a section that highlights San Antonio’s universities such as the University A&M San Antonio, University of Texas at San Antonio, and the University of the Incarnate Word. Sorry, St. Mary’s University and Trinity, didn’t see you on the board.

Landmarks like the Tower of the Americas and the Alamo had made the cut. There are a few local businesses that made it to the board like Valero, Black Rifle Coffee Co. and Dignowity Meats.

“For us, it’s all about developing something that’s not for the tourists,” said Ben Thompson, commercial manager for Top Trumps, who was involved in the game’s development and spoke from London. “It’s for the people of San Antonio.”

The game is being sold online for $39.99 and limited quantities are available right now.
