As the COVID-19 cases surge in the city of San Antonio, Metro Health Director Dr. Dawn Emerick resigns from her position after five months on the job.
Emerick resigned Thursday night as positive cases soar in the 600’s.
Erik Walsh, the City Manager made a statement regarding the resignation of Emerick.
”Last night, I received a letter of resignation from Metro Health Director Dr. Dawn Emerick. Clearly, the timing is not good, but we wish her well in her future endeavors. The COVID-19 emergency has revealed the depth of talent that exists within our health department, which will continue to lead the public health response. Dr. Bridger and I will work with my team to develop a plan going forward.”
Emerick was the second highest health official in San Antonio to step down during the pandemic. Back in May, Dr. Colleen Bridger, the assistant City Manager announced her plans to resign on July 17.
Bridger had overseen the Metro Health since March 2017 before assistant manager.
