San Antonio’s first all-inclusive pirate themed public playground to open 2023

Everyone will be welcomed at Mitchell’s Landing, San Antonio’s very first free inclusive public playground. The 42-acre pirate-themed public playground and park had broke ground on November 20, 2022 at the 204 acre Classen-Steubing Ranch Park which is located in the Stone Oak area of San Antonio. This playground is not just for children, it is for all-ages including those who have disabilities.

Mitchell’s Story: Back in 2018, 3-year-old Mitchell Chang had visited a swim instructing school in the Stone Oak area but an incident had occurred. Mitchell was found unresponsive in the deep end of the pool. Heartbreaking news was reported to Michell’s parents that their son had passed away in the result of drowning.

The Mitchell Chang Foundation: A 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that the Chang family created in honor of their late son Mitchell. This organization was create to help fund and build Mitchell’s Landing.

Why is it pirate themed? Mitchell was a fan of dinosaurs and pirates. Playground equipment designer and manufacturer GameTime had made a pirate themed design in mind to honor Mitchell.
