SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – San Antonio Zoo and Ranger Creek Brewing & Distilling have partnered to release a new limited-edition bourbon designed to support wildlife conservation efforts while celebrating Texas craftsmanship.
The new B’Wenzi Edition Lowlands Texas Straight Bourbon Whiskey was created exclusively for the zoo, with a portion of proceeds from every bottle sold going directly toward conservation initiatives supported by San Antonio Zoo.
Crafted grain-to-glass using Texas-sourced grains, the bourbon is aged in charred oak barrels before being finished in amburana barrels, creating a bold yet smooth flavor profile. According to the organizations, the whiskey features notes of cinnamon, maple syrup, and vanilla with a sweet-bodied finish.
The bourbon’s name honors the seven Western lowland gorillas that reside in the zoo’s immersive Congo Falls habitat, one of the newest featured areas at San Antonio Zoo.
“At San Antonio Zoo, everything we do comes back to our vision of securing a future for wildlife,” said Tim Morrow, President and CEO of San Antonio Zoo. “This partnership is an extension of that mission and a delicious one at that. Every bottle sold is a chance for our community to be part of something bigger, and we couldn’t be more excited to share it with San Antonio.”
TJ Miller, Founder and Head Distiller of Ranger Creek Brewing & Distilling, said the collaboration was an opportunity to support both wildlife and conservation awareness through a uniquely Texas-made product.
“Partnering with San Antonio Zoo on a bourbon that honors and benefits these awe-inspiring gorillas and their world-class, two-acre immersive habitat is truly an honor for us,” Miller said. “This partnership is about making a difference, supporting all the great conservation work the zoo does both locally and globally.”
Guests attending Zoo La-La! A Taste of San Antonio on Thursday, May 14, will have the first opportunity to sample the bourbon before its official retail release.
Following the event, the B’Wenzi Edition Lowlands Texas Straight Bourbon Whiskey will be available for purchase at Alamo City Liquor, Ranger Creek Brewing & Distilling, and Total Wine & More locations across Texas.
The bourbon is also expected to appear at select restaurants and bars throughout San Antonio, as well as inside the zoo itself.
