San Antonio Traffic Alert: Weekend Full Closure for Loop 1604 North Expansion Project

San Antonio, TX – In a significant step towards the ongoing Loop 1604 North Expansion Project, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) has scheduled a full weekend closure affecting specific sections of Loop 1604 and IH-10. Commencing on Friday, December 8, 2023, at 9 p.m., the closure will persist until Monday, December 11, 2023, at 5 a.m., weather permitting.

 

Affected Areas and Closure Details:
1. Loop 1604 Westbound (WB) Mainlanes: The closure encompasses the stretch between the Bitters Road exit ramp to the Lockhill Selma Road entrance ramp.

2. Loop 1604 Eastbound (EB) Mainlanes: Full closure from the Vance Jackson Road exit ramp to the Bitters Road entrance ramp.

3. IH-10 Westbound Exit Ramp to Loop 1604 Eastbound: Temporarily closed during the specified period.

4. IH-10 Eastbound Cloverleaf Exit (Southwest Cloverleaf) to Loop 1604 Eastbound Mainlanes: Closure for a traffic switch operation.

Purpose and Traffic Switch:
This weekend closure is essential for executing a traffic switch as part of the Loop 1604 North Expansion Project. The construction team will work on transitioning to the temporary configuration while focusing on the outside mainlanes. Off-duty officers will be present to facilitate smooth traffic flow through intersections as needed.

Detour Routes:
Loop 1604 WB Mainlanes:
– Exit via the Bitters Road exit ramp.
– Re-enter the WB mainlanes via the Lockhill Selma Road entrance ramp.

Loop 1604 EB Mainlanes:
– Exit via the Vance Jackson Road exit ramp.
– Continue on the EB frontage road.
– Re-enter the EB mainlanes via the Bitters Road entrance ramp.

IH-10 WB to Loop 1604 EB:
– Take the frontage road exit (north of UTSA Boulevard).
– Continue on the frontage road to Loop 1604 EB frontage road.
– Re-enter the Loop 1604 EB mainlanes using the Bitters Road entrance ramp.

IH-10 EB to Loop 1604 EB:
– Take the frontage road exit (south of La Cantera Parkway).
– Continue on the frontage road to the Loop 1604 EB frontage road intersection.
– Re-enter the Loop 1604 EB mainlanes using the Bitters Road entrance ramp.

Residents and commuters are urged to plan ahead, follow posted detour signs, and exercise caution while navigating the affected areas during this construction period.
