The Bexar County Commissioners Court has made an exciting announcement for San Antonio Spurs fans. On Tuesday, April 18, 2023 the court unanimously approved the 5 time champion’s request to play more home games outside of the AT&T Center in the upcoming 2023/24 NBA season.

One reason for the change is that the Spurs are looking to expand their fan base beyond San Antonio. Playing games in other venues in the area could provide an opportunity for fans who live outside of San Antonio to attend games and support the team. It also gives the Spurs a chance to showcase their team to a wider audience, potentially attracting new fans.

Presented to the court was allowing San Antonio’s home team to play a total of three games. Two in Austin at the Moody Center and 1 international game over the next two seasons. This still needs the approval of the NBA.

The Spurs have a loyal fan base in San Antonio, and the decision to play more home games outside of the AT&T Center has generated some mixed reactions. Some fans are excited about the possibility of attending games at new venues, while others are concerned that the team may be losing its connection to its home base.

Regardless of the reactions, the decision by the Bexar County Commissioners Court to approve the Spurs’ request from the Spurs Sports and Entertainment CEO R.C. Buford and the Spurs Chief Legal Officer Bobby Perez is a positive development for the team and its fans. The Spurs have been a fixture in San Antonio for decades, and this change provides an opportunity for the team to continue to evolve and grow. It will be exciting to see where the Spurs will be playing their home games in the upcoming season and how this change will impact the team’s performance on the court.
