San Antonio public pools remain closed

Gov. Greg Abbott said that pools and other bodies of water can open up on Friday (May 8) per order.

Despite the order from the governor, the city of San Antonio public swimming pools and splash pads will remain closed. The city feels that it is not the right time to open just yet in order to help keep the spread of COVID-19 down in the community.

The order states other pools and bodies of water can open up as long as they’re abiding the 25% of the occupancy rate and instate social distancing rules.

However the order says “Local public swimming pools may so operate only if permitted by the local government.”

San Antonio Parks and Recreation has confirmed that the pools have been temporarily suspended due to this developing situation and the guidance from the Health Transition Team.

The city reminds us that the parks and trails are open as long as social distance is practiced.
