San Antonio pizza joint makes ’50 Top Pizza’ list

Coming in 32 out of 50 of the top pizza establishments in the nation, Il Forno stacks up the praise for using local ingredients and homemade cuts on their pie packed with “genuine flavor.”

Chef Jason Garcia had flown all the way to La Devozione at Chelsea Market in New York City on June 14 to claim the award from an Italy based international pizza authority team that had went out to test 100 pizzas across the United States.

50 Top Pizza writes: โ€œThis is the perfect place to take the family or for a pleasant evening with your friends. The wood-fired oven is used for baking the pizzas, and great care is taken in the choice of the raw ingredients which are all local, even the mozzarella and the ricotta. The homemade cold cuts are full of genuine flavor, it is really worth your while. The owner, Michael Sohocki built the pizza oven himself. The pizza alla carbonara is a novelty for the States and it is well worth trying, as is the Parma, with ham and rocket. The prices are more than fair for the city.โ€
