San Antonio HOV lanes to debut this fall

San Antonio is joining other major municipalities with our very own HOV lanes that will open up fall of 2020. HOV stands for High Occupancy Vehicle. These vehicles that will utilize this special lane will be those with 2 or more passengers that include regular vehicles, VIA busses, Uber, Lyft and Taxis with passengers, carpool vehicles, motorcycles, police, EMS and firetrucks can also utilize the lane.

There are no fees or need to register anywhere. Using the lane is as easy as entering where the lines are dashed with the diamond symbol printed on the asphalt.

For those who are riding solo and are using the lane can be pulled over and issued a fine by San Antonio Police Department.

This fall,  HOV lanes will begin utilization on both directions on a 5-mile portion of I-10 between La Cantera Parkway and FM 3351 at Ralph Fair Road.

Later in 2021, the HOV lane on U.S. Highway 281 starting at Loop 1604 to the north of Stone Oak Parkway will be scheduled to operate.
