San Antonio, Texas (October 3, 2025) โ The San Antonio Brahmas, part of the United Football League (UFL), announced today that the team will no longer play in San Antonio as the league shifts toward more intimate venues aimed at enhancing the fan experience.
The announcement follows a comprehensive review of all markets and venues. League officials said current stadium options in San Antonio do not align with the UFLโs refreshed vision, which prioritizes smaller-scale settings that create a closer, more immersive game day atmosphere.
โWe know this is disappointing โ we feel it too,โ the league said in a statement. โWe are deeply grateful for everything youโve given to this team.โ
The Brahmas had played their home games at the Alamodome, drawing some of the most passionate fans in spring football. Their removal marks the end of a brief but memorable era for the team, which was originally introduced in 2023 when the XFL expanded into San Antonio, bringing professional spring football back to the city after the earlier run of the San Antonio Commanders in the Alliance of American Football.
Teams Remaining and Departing
As of the UFLโs latest announcement, the teams that will continue into the 2026 season are the:
-
Arlington Renegades
-
Birmingham Stallions
-
Columbus (relocated franchise)
-
DC Defenders
-
Houston Roughnecks
-
St. Louis Battlehawks
Meanwhile, three franchises were officially cut from the league. On October 3, 2025, the UFL announced that the Michigan Panthers, Memphis Showboats, and San Antonio Brahmas would not return for the 2026 season. However, the league expressed hope that all three markets could return in potential future expansion as soon as 2028.
San Antonio had been part of the XFL Conference when the two spring football leagues, the XFL and USFL, merged in 2024 to form the UFL.
Refunds for Fans
The UFL confirmed that season ticket members will receive automatic refunds with no action required. Refunds will be issued back to the original method of payment within 7โ10 business days.
Looking Forward
League officials reiterated their commitment to San Antonio fans and left the door open for the Brahmasโ return in the future. โIf the right venue becomes available in San Antonio, we look forward to bringing the Brahmas back home,โ the UFL stated.
The UFL plans to announce its updated markets and venue details for the 2026 season next week.
For now, the message from the Brahmas to their loyal supporters is one of gratitude:
โThank you again for being a fan and being a part of this spring football journey.โ
