San Antonio Based Whataburger Celebrates Month of the Military Child with Fundraiser Supporting Gratitude Initiative

SAN ANTONIO (April 1, 2024) – Whataburger, the iconic fast-food chain beloved by Texans and beyond, is honoring the Month of the Military Child with a heartfelt initiative. From April 1st through April 14th, Whataburger is partnering with the non-profit organization, Gratitude Initiative, to raise funds benefiting children of military and veteran families.

During this special fundraising period, patrons visiting any Whataburger location can contribute a minimum of $1 to the Month of the Military Child fundraiser. In appreciation for their generosity, donors will receive a thank-you coupon for a complimentary Whataburger with the purchase of a medium fry and a 32-ounce drink to be redeemed on their next visit.

Gratitude Initiative, established in 2013, is committed to supporting the educational pursuits of students from military families. Their comprehensive programs provide invaluable resources to students in grades 8-12, including personalized college and career counseling, SAT/ACT test preparation, financial aid guidance, and scholarships – all at no cost to the families.

This systemwide restaurant fundraiser is part of Whataburger’s larger charitable program, Feeding Student Success, which aims to address food insecurity and educational needs within communities. Allie Watters, Community Relations Manager at Whataburger, expressed the company’s dedication to supporting military students, stating, “At Whataburger, we understand the unique challenges military students face in their academic journeys. Through Whataburger Feeding Student Success and in partnership with organizations like Gratitude Initiative, we’re privileged to be a part of providing essential resources for their success. It’s an honor to serve those who serve, and we’re grateful for our Guests’ support in making the difference.”

The Whataburger Month of the Military Child fundraiser holds the promise of assisting countless teenagers from active military and veteran families in realizing their dreams of higher education and successful careers.

Lee Sechrist, Co-Founder of Gratitude Initiative, expressed gratitude for Whataburger’s support, noting, “Military teens are strong and resilient, with service and dedication to duty engrained in their DNA. As our future leaders in business, science, technology, and more – they will positively impact our nation for generations to come. We thank Whataburger’s outstanding team members and loyal customers for helping us show our gratitude for military families in our local communities, and around the world.”
