A new rule instated by the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission allows some bars in the San Antonio metroplex to reopen.

Those bars have been reclassified as restaurants if their alcohol sales were below the 51 percent of their overall sales from April to the end of July.

Several bars such as The Well, Lucy Cooper’s Ice House, The Friendly Spot, The Winchester to name a few that can reopen under the new rule.

Mayor Ron Nirenberg had disapproved this ruling on Wednesday during his daily COVID-19 briefing to the media.

“I will say that everything we have heard says that congregation inside buildings is the high risk,” Nirenberg said. “It’s the wrong thing to be doing right now, so anything that would be encouraging that more, especially at this phase in the game, is probably the wrong thing to be doing.”

On the upside, many of these establishments have plenty of outdoor space to social distance.
