SAN ANTONIO, TX – March 11, 2025 – Major safety improvements are on the way for Pleasanton Rd./Moursund Blvd., bringing much-needed traffic and pedestrian enhancements to the area. The San Antonio Transportation Department, in collaboration with TxDOT, has announced a series of upgrades aimed at reducing crashes and improving safety for all road users.

Project Details & Enhancements

The project, funded through City resources and a TxDOT Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) grant, includes:

🚦 A new signalized intersection at Rayburn Drive to enhance traffic flow and safety.
🚶‍♂️ Three mid-block crossings equipped with Pedestrian Hybrid Beacons (PHBs), which will provide warning lights to alert drivers when pedestrians enter the crosswalk.
🚧 Installation of medians to help manage traffic and reduce collisions.

Why These Changes Matter

The improvements will:

✅ Reduce the number of crashes in the area.
✅ Enhance pedestrian safety, making it easier and safer to cross the street.
✅ Provide clear visual warnings to drivers, encouraging them to slow down and stop for pedestrians.
✅ Improve the overall safety and accessibility of the corridor for all road users, including cyclists and drivers.

Construction Timeline

🔨 Start Date: December 2, 2024
🏗️ Expected Completion: Fall 2025*

The City of San Antonio and TxDOT are committed to ensuring that residents, businesses, and commuters experience minimal disruption during construction. Community members are encouraged to stay informed about progress updates and potential detours.
