Rock ‘n’ Roll marathon is still a go this year

One major marathon is still slated to be on this year despite COVID-19 pandemic. The Rock ‘n’ Roll marathon is still set to go on for December 5th and 6th. Organizers are promising a safe event this year.

There will be some changes to the rules this year.

  • Participants must wear face coverings while around the event venue including the start and finish lines. Face covering will be provided with the packet.
  • All staff and volunteers are to wear face coverings at all times.
  • Participants and volunteers must complete a health survey questionnaire and subject for a temperature check. Those who have a temperature of 100.4 or higher will not be allowed to participate.
  • There will be a number of hand washing stations and hand sanitizing stations throughout the venues.
  • To reduce possible exposure to the virus, finish lines will be “reimagined” and “redesigned”
  • Participants are encouraged to bring their own hydration and nutrition along for their route.
  • There will be strict social distancing guidelines and measures for spectators and dense areas such as the start line and finish line.

โ€œSafety has always been of greatest importance for our events, and while the decision around when to host an event will ultimately depend on local communities and public health authorities, we have been working with experts and event stakeholders on how to conduct events safely in this new reality that allows for the continuation of positive economic impact for host cities, and the mental and physical benefits for participants that endurance events provide,โ€ Andrew Messick, President & CEO of The IRONMAN Group, said.

The 10K and 5K races are expected to begin at Hoefgen Avenue and Heiman Street where St. Paul Square is and to end near Travis Park.

The marathon and half-marathon course is expected to start at West Market and South Alamo streets like the previous years and to end at Cesar Chavez Blvd. by the Institute of Texan Cultures.

If needed, start times and routes are subject to change.
