Retama Park Announces 2026 Live Racing Season Schedule

SELMA, Texas โ€” Horse racing returns to South Texas this summer as Retama Park prepares for its 2026 live racing season, running from June 25 through August 22. The season promises weeks of live horse racing, themed events, fireworks, and family-friendly entertainment at the Selma racetrack just north of San Antonio.

Opening night kicks off on June 25, where fans can celebrate the start of the season with $2 draft beers and the first slate of live races of the summer. Racing will continue throughout June, July, and August with weekend racing dates highlighted on the trackโ€™s seasonal calendar.

Summer Racing and Special Events

In addition to live horse racing, Retama Park has lined up several special attractions and themed events to give visitors more reasons to come out to the track.

The Fourth of July weekend will feature a two-night fireworks celebration on July 3 and July 4, lighting up the sky following the races.

One of the most unique weekends of the season will take place in mid-July when guests can meet and see exotic animals at the track. On July 16, Retama Park will host a Camel, Ostrich and Zebra Meet & Greet, followed by Camel, Ostrich and Zebra racing on July 17 and 18, a popular fan-favorite event that brings a playful twist to traditional horse racing.

Later in July, racing fans can catch the TQHA Futurity Weekend on July 24 and 25, showcasing some of the top quarter horse competitors in Texas.

Family-Friendly Activities

Several events throughout the summer are designed with families in mind. On August 1, guests can participate in a Diamond Dig, sponsored by Americus Diamond, where participants have the chance to uncover a hidden gem.

The track will also host Family Fun Day on August 8, featuring activities and entertainment for younger visitors.

Season Finale

The 2026 live racing season will conclude with Closing Night on August 22, highlighted by the crowd-favorite Weenie Dog Races, where dachshunds take to the track for a fun and spirited competition.
