Sadly, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, organizers of the Raul Jimenez Thanksgiving dinner had to cancel their huge indoor dining event that occurs annually inside the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center.
This year the organizers will be focusing on delivering food to help San Antonio’s less fortunate and elderly.
This amazing operation was started by Raul Jimenez, a San Antonio restaurant owner and businessman in 1979 to invite senior citizens and those who can’t afford to make their own Thanksgiving meal. A nutritious turkey dinner with all the fixings are served to over 24,000 people on Thanksgiving Day.
Now, the granddaughter of Raul, Jessica Jimenez and her family will be assisting in this year’s massive feast continuing the tradition despite that pandemic.
The food will still be prepared inside the convention center on Thanksgiving Day. It is not clear on how many volunteers will be working preparing the food.
