Pharmacy to begin administering COVID-19 vaccine at the end of December
On Monday, CVS announced that they will be administering the COVID-19 vaccine at long-term care facilities around Texas including here in San Antonio.
The chain said that they will inoculate over 275,000 patients in over 2,000 nursing facilities statewide beginning on December 28.
A limited amount of Pfizer’s vaccinations will be going to the most vulnerable people first who are identified as health care workers, front line workers and nursing home facility residents.
CVS is one of two vaccination providers that have partnered with the U.S. Government to administer shots to residents in nursing homes and long term care facilities.
Walgreens is the other.
“Today’s rollout is the culmination of months of internal planning and demonstrates how the private sector can use its expertise to help solve some of our most critical challenges,” Larry J. Merlo, president and CEO of CVS Health, said in a news release. “I’m grateful for the herculean efforts of everyone involved, including our health care professionals who will be deployed throughout the country to bring peace of mind to long-term care facility residents, staff, and their loved ones.”
As of now there are two approved vaccines in the U.S, one being Pfizer BioNTech, which is already being distributed. The other has been given the green light by the FDA from Moderna, Inc that starts shipping on Sunday.
