SAN ANTONIO (August 26, 2025) – The City of San Antonio will begin a series of pedestrian and traffic improvements at the intersection of North Alamo Street and 9th Street starting Tuesday, September 2. Construction is expected to continue through October.
During the project, one lane of traffic in each direction will remain open at all times to minimize disruption for drivers.
Planned Improvements
The project includes several enhancements designed to improve safety and accessibility for pedestrians and motorists:
-
Installation of medians on both North Alamo and 9th Street.
-
Addition of stop signs to establish an all-way stop at the intersection.
-
Traffic calming measures through lane reductions.
-
Replacement of ADA ramps and sidewalks to improve accessibility.
-
Fresh crosswalk and pavement markings to increase pedestrian visibility.
City officials said the upgrades are part of broader efforts to create safer, more pedestrian-friendly streets in downtown San Antonio. The improvements aim to calm traffic, enhance walkability, and ensure compliance with accessibility standards.
