Pearl donut shop closes
Artisan donut shop Maybelle’s inside the Bottling Department at the Historic Pearl Brewery shut down their operations on December 31st. The bakery launched 2012 by co-founder’s Jeremy Mandrell, Anne Ng and Charlie Biedenharn of Bakery Lorraine.
The donut shop served up specialty donuts, Merit brand coffee, soft-serve ice cream, and fried pies with fruit filling.
The name Maybelle was a memorial to Charlie’s late dog of 14 years. In 2018, Insider ranked Maybelle’s one of 13 unique donut shops in the United States.
If you ever get a craving for a Maybelle doughnut, they will live on at Bakery Lorraine shops around the San Antonio area.
A new shop will take the spot soon according to a spokesperson for the Bottling Department food hall at The Pearl.
