Northside ISD to name new high school after Justice Sonia Sotomayor
In a post to social media, NISD will be naming a high school after Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States Sonia Maria Sotomayor. Sotomayor was appointed under Barack Obama on May 26, 2009. Sotomayor is the first Hispanic and Latina member of the Court.
The new high school is slated to be opening in 2022 near the Government Canyon area. The school will relieve Harlan High School and O’ Connor High Schools in the fast growing area on the far west side near Alamo Ranch.
This will be NISD’s 12th high school and it is tradition for the large district to name high schools after Supreme Court Justices.
It's official- our 12th comprehensive high school will be named after US Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor. Trustees voted on the name at tonight's Board Meeting. The process began in 2019 w/nomination essays from 8th graders- https://t.co/tanuyFvYJd pic.twitter.com/vnL3GAnksg
