Northside ISD to host contactless graduation event

Traditionally under normal circumstances, graduations are held in a public setting such as the Alamodome. This year in the midst of a pandemic things are different for the class of 2020.

Northside ISD will be hosting a professionally put together graduation ceremony in early July. Students from each high school will host a safe and contactless graduation starting the week of June 15.

” While we had hoped for a traditional graduation event, we recognize our obligation to ensure the health and safety of our students, families, and staff,” NISD officials said in a statement. “Regretfully, NISD will not be conducting in-person graduation ceremonies at the Alamodome in late July.”

Those who want to opt-in can participate by registering online. Once they determine the amount who registered, the district then will select time slots over the course of several days to start on June 15th.

Once everything has been finalized, officials will communicate an invitation to the graduate with an assigned date and time they can distribute to the family. Graduates and their guests will be able to hear all of the names and scholarships announced as they walk across their high school stage, receive their diploma, go through three strategically placed photo stations.

The graduates will be practicing social distancing and everyone will be wearing face masks including the personnel and graduates. Graduates will have an opportunity to have photos taken without their face coverings.

Those attending the graduation will be pre-screened by NISD Health Services with temperature checks and a brief questionnaire.
