WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) released the following statement today after the U.S. Department of State announced the establishment of a new U.S. passport agency in San Antonio, Texas:

“Home to the Alamo, the annual Fiesta celebration, and the largest joint military base in the nation, my hometown of San Antonio has a rich cultural history and serves as a hub for veterans, businesses, and visitors across the globe,” said Sen. Cornyn. “With only three other U.S. passport agencies in Texas, this much-needed facility in ‘Military City USA’ will make it easier and more convenient for Texans to obtain and renew a passport.”

Background:

The FY 2024 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), which Sen. Cornyn supported, tasked the Bureau of Consular Affairs with improving in-person and emergency passport services for residents living in significant population centers more than a five-hour drive from an existing passport agency. In addition to San Antonio, other cities meeting the NDAA requirements include Cincinnati, Kansas City, Salt Lake City, Orlando, and Charlotte.

Previously, San Antonio residents had to travel to Dallas or Houston to visit local agencies for expedited passport services or to resolve passport issues. The new San Antonio passport agency will significantly ease this process, providing more accessible services for the local community.

San Antonio, known for its rich cultural heritage and as a pivotal location for veterans and businesses, will benefit greatly from this addition. This new facility is expected to enhance convenience for many Texans, aligning with the city’s reputation as “Military City USA.”
