On October 1st, San Antonio will raise the age to buy tobacco products including vape products to 21 from the previous age of 18.

The city is the first in the state of Texas to raise the age. The ordinance only bans the sale of tobacco products even using cigarettes, chewing tobacco, tobacco vape pens, hookahs and other tobacco type of products within the city limits.

Retailers, merchants and hookah shops will face a maximum fine of $500 if they violate the ordinance law.

The city council had voted 9-2 in January 2018 to change the law.
