New Collector Distributor Opening at Loop 1604 and SH 151 by November 23
SAN ANTONIO, TX (November 20, 2024) – As part of the SH 151 Expansion Project, TxDOT will open a new collector distributor road on northbound Loop 1604 at the SH 151 interchange by 12 p.m. on Saturday, November 23.
To prepare for the opening, two major ramps will permanently close starting at 9 a.m. on Thursday, November 21 to allow crews to complete paving and striping operations:
- The westbound SH 151 ramp to northbound Loop 1604
- The northbound Loop 1604 exit ramp to Culebra Road
Once the new collector distributor road is operational, drivers will use a temporary entrance ramp to northbound Loop 1604 before Culebra Road. This temporary ramp will remain in place until the flyover ramp is completed and opened by summer 2025.
Detour Information
- Northbound Loop 1604 to Culebra Road:
Drivers traveling northbound on Loop 1604 should exit at SH 151, proceed to Wiseman Blvd., take the eastbound to westbound turnaround, and follow the frontage road to Culebra Road. - Westbound SH 151 to Northbound Loop 1604:
Drivers traveling westbound on SH 151 should continue on the frontage road and use the entrance ramp after Culebra Road. Once the collector distributor opens, drivers will use the new temporary entrance ramp before Culebra Road.
Improving Connectivity and Traffic Flow
The new collector distributor road is designed to improve connectivity and streamline traffic flow in the area, addressing longstanding congestion concerns at the SH 151 and Loop 1604 interchange. The temporary measures, including the entrance ramp, are part of ongoing improvements that will culminate in the opening of the flyover ramp in summer 2025.
