San Antonio, TX (April 30, 2024) – The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) has announced a major full weekend closure as part of the ongoing Loop 1604 North Expansion Project. The closure will affect various lanes and ramps at the I-10 interchange, aiming to facilitate bridge construction and bent cap replacement.

Starting at 9 p.m. on Friday, May 3, 2024, and lasting until 5 a.m. on Monday, May 6, 2024, weather permitting, the following closures will be in effect:

– Loop 1604 Westbound (WB) Mainlanes at the I-10 interchange
– Loop 1604 Eastbound (EB) Mainlanes, Collector-Distributor, and Frontage Road at the I-10 interchange
– I-10 Westbound (WB) Mainlanes and Collector-Distributor at the Loop 1604 interchange
– Cloverleafs from I-10 WB to Loop 1604 WB, Loop 1604 EB to I-10 WB, and I-10 EB to Loop 1604 EB

These closures are vital for the progression of the Loop 1604 North Expansion Project and are necessary for the anticipated construction work. However, all closures are subject to change and modification as needed.

During the closure, local law enforcement will be present to direct traffic through intersections. Detour routes have been established to minimize disruption:

– I-10 WB and to Loop 1604 WB: Travelers on I-10 WB will exit to the IH-10 WB frontage road after UTSA Boulevard and follow it through the interchange. Access to Loop 1604 WB can be obtained via the U-turn at La Cantera Parkway or by re-entering the IH-10 WB mainlanes.
– I-10 EB to Loop 1604 EB: Travelers on I-10 EB looking to access Loop 1604 EB will exit at Exit 557, utilize the U-turn at UTSA Boulevard, and then follow the I-10 WB frontage road to the Loop 1604 EB frontage road.
– Loop 1604 WB Mainlanes: Travelers continuing through the IH-10 interchange will exit to the Loop 1604 WB collector-distributor, follow it through the interchange, and re-enter the Loop 1604 WB mainlanes at the entrance ramp after Agave Pass.
– Loop 1604 EB Mainlanes and to I-10 WB: Travelers on Loop 1604 EB will exit to the Loop 1604 EB frontage road after La Cantera Parkway, follow it to the I-10 EB frontage road, utilize the U-turn at UTSA Boulevard, and then re-enter the Loop 1604 EB mainlanes.

All closures are weather permitting and subject to change. Motorists are advised to plan their routes accordingly and follow detour signs for a smooth travel experience.
