Major Loop 1604 and I-10 Closures Planned This Weekend

SAN ANTONIO — Drivers traveling through one of San Antonio’s busiest highway interchanges should prepare for significant delays this weekend as major portions of Loop 1604 and I-10 will close for construction.

As part of the Loop 1604 North Expansion Project, TxDOT will close the eastbound and westbound Loop 1604 mainlanes at I-10, along with both directions of the I-10 mainlanes and frontage roads at Loop 1604.

The closures are scheduled to begin at 9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 21, and continue through 5 a.m. Monday, Aug. 24, weather permitting.

The closures are needed for bridge construction at the Loop 1604 and I-10 interchange.

Despite the extensive closures, all flyover ramps at the Loop 1604 and I-10 interchange will remain open throughout the weekend.

Motorists traveling through the area should expect delays, allow additional travel time and watch for posted detour signs.

Loop 1604 detours

Eastbound Loop 1604: Drivers will exit before reaching I-10 and continue along the eastbound Loop 1604 frontage road through the interchange. Motorists can then use the first available entrance ramp to return to the Loop 1604 mainlanes.

Westbound Loop 1604: Drivers will similarly exit before the I-10 interchange and travel along the westbound Loop 1604 frontage road. The first available entrance ramp after the interchange can be used to return to the mainlanes.

I-10 mainlane detours

Eastbound I-10: Drivers will take the flyover ramp toward westbound Loop 1604 and exit to the frontage road at Kyle Seale Parkway. Motorists will make a U-turn at Kyle Seale Parkway to reach the eastbound Loop 1604 frontage road, enter the Loop 1604 mainlanes and follow signs for eastbound I-10. Drivers can then use the flyover ramp to return to the eastbound I-10 mainlanes.

Westbound I-10: Drivers will take the flyover ramp toward eastbound Loop 1604 before exiting to the frontage road at NW Military Highway. Motorists will use the U-turn at NW Military Highway to reach the westbound Loop 1604 frontage road, enter the Loop 1604 mainlanes and follow signs toward westbound I-10 before using the flyover to return to the highway.

I-10 frontage road detours

Eastbound I-10 frontage road: Drivers attempting to continue through Loop 1604 will keep right onto the westbound Loop 1604 frontage road and use the U-turn at La Cantera Parkway. From there, motorists will travel along the eastbound Loop 1604 frontage road and keep right to return to the eastbound I-10 frontage road.

Westbound I-10 frontage road: Drivers will keep right onto the eastbound Loop 1604 frontage road and use the signalized turnaround at Vance Jackson Road. Motorists will then travel along the westbound Loop 1604 frontage road and keep right to return to the westbound I-10 frontage road.

The closures are part of ongoing work on the Loop 1604 North Expansion Project. Drivers traveling near the I-10 interchange throughout the weekend are encouraged to plan ahead, consider alternate routes and follow all construction and detour signage.
