SAN ANTONIO, Texas — Drivers traveling through one of San Antonio’s busiest highway interchanges should prepare for another round of closures this weekend as construction continues on the Loop 1604 North Expansion Project.

The Texas Department of Transportation will implement a combination of nightly and daytime closures at Loop 1604 and I-10 from Friday, Aug. 14 through Monday, Aug. 17 for bridge construction.

The closures will affect portions of the Loop 1604 mainlanes, the Loop 1604 exit to Valero Way and Vance Jackson Road, I-10 mainlanes and frontage roads.

All flyover ramps at the Loop 1604 and I-10 interchange will remain open throughout the scheduled work.

Closures are weather permitting and schedules could change.

Weekend Nightly Closures

The most significant closures will take place overnight from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Friday, Aug. 14 through Monday, Aug. 17.

During the nightly construction periods, TxDOT will close:

  • The right lane of eastbound Loop 1604 from La Cantera Parkway to the entrance ramp before Valero Way
  • The eastbound Loop 1604 exit to Valero Way/Vance Jackson Road
  • Eastbound and westbound I-10 mainlanes at the Loop 1604 interchange
  • Eastbound and westbound I-10 frontage roads at the interchange

Drivers should expect delays and allow additional travel time, particularly when traveling through the I-10 and Loop 1604 corridor.

Daytime Closures Saturday and Sunday

Additional closures will remain in place during the daytime on Saturday, Aug. 15 and Sunday, Aug. 16, from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Daytime closures include the right lane of eastbound Loop 1604 from La Cantera Parkway to the entrance ramp before Valero Way and the eastbound Loop 1604 exit to Valero Way/Vance Jackson Road.

Both the eastbound and westbound I-10 frontage roads at the interchange will also be closed.

Unlike the overnight construction periods, the I-10 mainlanes are not listed among the daytime closures.

Drivers Should Prepare for Detours

Motorists attempting to reach Valero Way or Vance Jackson Road from eastbound Loop 1604 will need to take the previous exit to Chase Hill Boulevard and continue along the eastbound Loop 1604 frontage road.

Drivers traveling eastbound on the I-10 frontage road will be directed onto the westbound Loop 1604 frontage road before making a U-turn at La Cantera Parkway. From there, motorists can travel along the eastbound Loop 1604 frontage road and reconnect with the eastbound I-10 frontage road.

Westbound I-10 frontage road traffic will be directed onto the eastbound Loop 1604 frontage road before using the signalized turnaround at Vance Jackson Road. Drivers can then travel along the westbound Loop 1604 frontage road and reconnect with the westbound I-10 frontage road.

More extensive detours will be required for I-10 mainlane traffic during the overnight closures.

Eastbound I-10 drivers will use the flyover to westbound Loop 1604, exit at Kyle Seale Parkway and make a U-turn before returning eastbound on Loop 1604 and following signs back to eastbound I-10.

Westbound I-10 drivers will use the flyover to eastbound Loop 1604, exit toward NW Military Highway and make a U-turn before returning westbound on Loop 1604 and following signs back to westbound I-10.

TxDOT is encouraging motorists to follow posted detour signs and plan for additional travel time throughout the weekend as work continues on the Loop 1604 North Expansion Project.
