A Local Luxurious Resort with Rich History

ds of the historic Rogers-Wiseman Ranch, a family-owned ranch that operated for more than a century. The land was originally acquired on December 19, 1887 by D.G. Rogers, which made him a rancher of 2,777 acres of land now known originally as the Rogers Ranch. The ranch was managed for several years by D.G.’s middle son Henry Rogers, who later settled down and married Mary Feldtmann in 1901. Less than two years later, they welcomed their daughter, Blanche, named for Henry’s sister. Mary, known lovingly as “Aunt Mary”, was considered the first matriarch of the ranch, which she managed alongside her husband, and was also known for being an incredible chef, home brewer, and having unrivaled hospitality for guests. While D.G.’s health was declining, he was concerned that Henry would not be able to sustain the operation due to his lack of ranching experience, and made the decision to leave all of the land and its holdings to his infant granddaughter, Blanche. In 1929, Henry passed away at the age of 68 and Mary and Blanche took the ranch into their own hands, where they leased nearly all of the land to a neighbor in

order to keep the ranch operating. The mother-daughter duo had managed to survive Henry’s lack of ranching experience, but they needed a smart rancher to help get them through the Great Depression.

In 1934, Blanche married Ed Wiseman, a young ranch hand who began working at the ranch a year earlier. Blanch and Ed worked side by side to ensure the ranch was successful. Ed tended to the livestock and the land while Blanch ran the business side of the ranch in addition to taking care of the house, milking the cows, and keeping the garden. Ed quickly became known as “Papa Ed” and he was known for his captivating personality and endless stories. In 1987 the Rogers-Wiseman Ranch was honored by the Texas Department of Agriculture for 100 years of continuous operation, but life on the ranch had changed. In 1990, the acreage that Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort and Spa calls home was sold to the developers who carefully crafted a resort that would make the family proud for years to come.

With the unique history surrounding the land and the family who had managed it for over a century, the resort was designed around the living history of the location in honor of the Rogers-Wiseman family. Today, the resort is home to premier amenities and service reflective of authentic Texas hospitality embraced by Aunt Mary, Blanch and Papa Ed. The history of the family is interwoven throughout the resort experience with several resort areas named after members of the family, including Aunt Mary’s Porch, Blanche’s Sunday House, Papa Ed’s Pool Bar, Henry’s Hollow, and more.
