Large homeless population discovered in a drainage tunnel under Highway 281

Hollywood Park Police had an influx of calls of several of homeless individuals hanging around Hollywood Park, TX, an incorporated city within San Antonio. Those individuals were traced to the drainage area of Mecca and San Pedro.

Several of those calls were for disturbances, trespassing, drug and weapon violations along with littering according to Hollywood Park Police Chief Prichard.

The camp was discovered in the drainage tunnel under highway 281. Those tunnels run about half a mile long. Photos were taken to document the seriousness of the issue. The authorities describe the area filled with hazardous materials and human feces.

Hollywood Park was able to vacate and clear out the tunnel that runs within their jurisdiction but contacted the City of San Antonio to make them aware of the situation. The City of San Antonio will be assessing the situation on their side.

Among the findings discovered by the city of Hollywood Park was a peach colored rose bush that belonged to Father Kevin at St. Mark The Evangelist Catholic Church. They were pleased to have it back.
