Keeping your pet safe and calm during the Fourth of July
While fireworks are festive and beautiful, they’re used for many celebrations such as on Independence Day or ringing in the New Year. However, theres a downfall with fireworks and pets.
Humans can hear 20,000 hertz but your furry friend can hear double or triple that from anywhere to 45,000 to 65,000 hertz. That means to dogs left outside to face the noises of the explosions in the sky can startle or simply make them anxious.
Dogs have been known to jump over fences and dig under the fence to escape the startling noises of blasts. This means that many dogs run on the loose in neighborhoods. Many pets can either be picked up by strangers or dropped off at animal shelters. Owners then have to figure out where their pet went or have to face the burden of going down to the animal shelter to identify and rescue their pet.
Dogs are known to have phobias from different sounds like hairdryers, vacuum cleaners, power tools and thunderstorms. It is best to keep your canine friend indoors while the celebrations are occurring.
