It is a sad, sad day for radio in San antonio today. We just learned about the passing of beloved radio icon, Russell Rush who had passed away at the age of 44. The longtime radio host and program director of KXXM, 96.1 Now had been recently in hospice care.
The family had posted an update on Rush’s condition Friday evening. Rush had been diagnosed with T-Cell Lymphoma in June of 2019. He told his listeners that “there is no cure, just treatment and hope for remission, which is what we’re doing right now.”
Rush joined KXXM back in 2016 as the afternoon host and the quickly climbed up the ladder to become the program director in 2017. Rush is well known for his afternoon radio show that is self titled “The Russell Rush Show”. TRRS had great ratings and then he hosted an annual show around Halloween called “The Russell Rush Haunted Tour” that featured many great haunted attractions locally and around Texas.
Russell is survived by his wife Saralyn Ferrell.
Rush’s wife Ferrell said that they are working on memorial services for Rush and will have information as soon as possible.
