SAN ANTONIO, Texas — Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort and Villas has officially completed a more than $100 million transformation, unveiling a series of major additions including a 2.2-acre lagoon, a new waterfront event venue and state-of-the-art golf technology at the 300-acre Texas Hill Country destination.
The final phase of the multi-year renovation was celebrated March 5 with a ranch-inspired ribbon cutting using barbed wire, symbolizing the resort’s deep ties to the historic Rogers-Wiseman Ranch, a working cattle ranch that operated on the land for more than a century.
The extensive upgrades introduce several new guest experiences while modernizing the property’s accommodations, dining venues and meeting spaces.
“After three years of enhancing our resort experience, we are proud to announce the completion of this extensive renovation project,” said Steve Smith, General Manager of Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort and Villas. “From the addition of Texas’ newest beach to standalone villas, every enhancement was designed to preserve the warm, welcoming atmosphere that defines our resort and inspires guests to return year after year.”
The Big Spring Lagoon
At the center of the transformation is The Big Spring, a 2.2-acre human-made lagoon designed to bring a beach-style experience to the Texas Hill Country.
Powered by Crystal Lagoons® technology, the lagoon is the first of its kind located within a central U.S. resort destination. The attraction features white sand beaches, premium cabanas and water sport activities, creating a beach environment in San Antonio.
“The opening of the lagoon marks an exciting new chapter for Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort and Villas and sets a new benchmark for resort experiences,” said Nicolás Galotti, Regional Director at Crystal Lagoons. “By incorporating a Crystal Lagoons® amenity as part of its broader redevelopment, the resort is bringing beach life to Central Texas and creating a truly differentiated destination.”
The lagoon utilizes sustainable technology that consumes only two percent of the energy required by traditional swimming pool filtration systems and can operate using multiple water sources.
The addition also expands the resort’s existing five-acre water park, which includes a 900-foot lazy river modeled after a Texas river float, multiple swimming pools, a Texas-shaped adults-only pool, a two-story waterslide and a FlowRider® wave simulator.
Next to the lagoon sits Aunt Di’s Comfort Station, the resort’s newest dining concept. The casual eatery is named in honor of a family member of the resort’s developer, Woodbine Development Corporation.
“Aunt Di has a unique gift of hospitality that makes everyone feel like they’re part of the family,” said King Scovell, Managing Partner and Chief Development Officer for Woodbine. “Her warmth creates a sense of belonging that we want to extend to every resort visitor.”
Rancher Hall Waterfront Venue
Overlooking the lagoon is the newly built Rancher Hall, a 5,600-square-foot indoor and outdoor event venue designed for weddings, corporate gatherings and special celebrations.
The venue features high vaulted ceilings, exposed wood beams and large windows offering sweeping views of the lagoon. Outside, guests will find a ceremony lawn and patio surrounded by live oak trees.
Luxury Hill Country Villas
The resort also introduced five standalone luxury villas in summer 2025, each named after historic Texas rivers including Guadalupe, Nueces, Brazos, San Saba and Pecos.
Each 2,336-square-foot villa includes four bedrooms, private en-suite bathrooms, a fully equipped kitchen, spacious living areas and private patios. Guests staying in the villas receive exclusive amenities such as a dedicated villa host, twice-daily housekeeping and access to the Windflower Spa facilities.
Windflower Spa Enhancements
Windflower – The Hill Country Spa also underwent significant updates, including the addition of the Talpa Room, a 1,105-square-foot event space designed for wellness gatherings and private group experiences.
The spa’s outdoor pool area was refinished and enhanced with upgraded seating, landscaping and relaxation areas. Interior upgrades included new décor, artwork and improved salon stations.
Toptracer Range at Hill Country Golf Club
Golf enthusiasts will also find a new experience at Hill Country Golf Club, where 35 Toptracer Range™ bays have been installed.
The bays, which include 20 covered and 15 open-air hitting stations, use advanced camera technology to track ball speed, distance, curve and trajectory in real time. Players can review performance data on LED screens while enjoying food and drinks delivered directly to their bay.
Guestroom and Dining Renovations
The resort previously completed a full renovation of guestrooms, suites and meeting spaces in 2023, introducing hardwood flooring, updated bathrooms, enhanced technology and new artwork inspired by the ranch’s history.
Dining venues across the property were also refreshed in 2024, including Antlers Lodge, Cactus Oak Tavern and Charlie’s Long Bar. The resort also debuted the Woodbine Bar, a new indoor-outdoor lobby bar featuring signature cocktails inspired by the Hill Country.
With the completion of the transformation, Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort and Villas now offers an expanded collection of luxury accommodations, recreation amenities and event spaces designed to enhance the guest experience while preserving the spirit of its historic ranch setting.
