GRUENE, TEXAS (Jan. 28, 2026) โ€” A cherished piece of Texas history is preparing to welcome visitors once again. H.D. Gruene Mercantile, known as the โ€œoldest new shop in town,โ€ has announced it will reopen its doors on Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2026, marking the next chapter for the iconic storefront originally established in 1904.

Located at 1607 Hunter Road in the heart of the Gruene Historic District, the 6,500-square-foot building has been revitalized to honor its deep roots while introducing a refreshed retail experience. An official grand opening celebration is planned for Spring 2026.

โ€œWe look forward to welcoming the community and visitors to Gruene through the Mercantileโ€™s doors next month,โ€ said Susie Molak, wife of the late Pat Molak. โ€œH.D. Gruene Mercantile has always been part of Grueneโ€™s story, and this reopening is about honoring that legacy while creating something that feels relevant, inspiring, and distinctly Texan. Visitors to Gruene can look forward to immersing themselves in the Mercantileโ€™s rich history while perusing the original floors of the store.โ€

Named after Grueneโ€™s founder, Henry D. Gruene, the Mercantile will feature a thoughtfully curated mix of gifts, apparel, accessories, and home goods. More than 70 Texas-based brands and makers will be represented, highlighting the craftsmanship, authenticity, and independent spirit synonymous with both Gruene and the Lone Star State.

Designed to reflect the evolving character of the community, the reimagined space blends timeless charm with contemporary style, offering a welcoming destination for locals and travelers alike.
