Helotes Fire Department Unveils “Attack 1” Off-Road Brush Firefighting Vehicle at Independence Day Event

HELOTES, Tx. (July 2, 2024): The Helotes Fire Department is proud to announce the completion of its latest addition, a retired military HMMWV M1097A2, now transformed into a state-of-the-art off-road brush firefighting vehicle. Thanks to the Texas A&M Forest Service and the Department of Defense Firefighter Property Program, this vehicle, now known as “Attack 1,” was acquired and upgraded at no cost to the city.

The HMMWV M1097A2 was received by the Helotes Fire Department on October 13, 2023. Over the past few months, the department has dedicated countless hours to converting this retired military vehicle into a top-notch firefighting apparatus capable of handling the most challenging terrains and brush fires.

“We are incredibly grateful for the support from the Texas A&M Forest Service and the Department of Defense Firefighter Property Program,” said Chief Smith of the Helotes Fire Department. “The completion of this project represents a significant enhancement to our firefighting capabilities, allowing us to better protect our community, especially in hard-to-reach areas.”
