Free medication disposal event Saturday

The San Antonio Water System is helping people dispose of their medications properly. SAWS is trying to let the public know not to dispose of medicines via drains or toilets.

Disposing medicine properly help keep those chemicals out of our precious aquifer.

SAWS partnered with Med Drop SA at Brooks (8261 Boyle Rd.) from 8am – 1pm Saturday, May 19th. If you miss this event, the next Med Drop SA event is on September 15th at Alamo City Church.

The no-questions asked event helped dispose of more than 23 tons of medicines collected. Residents around the metroplex can dispose their expired / no longer used medications for free.

You don’t even have to get out of your vehicle as the event is a drive-up and go type of deal. Just transfer the pills from the bottle to a sealed plastic bag.

Also, if you have any hazardous materials laying around the house, gather them up and load them in the car because the City of San Antonio Household Hazardous Waste Mobile Collection unit will be there as well.

Liquids and aerosol cans have to be in their original containers.

Please note that the following will not be accepted:

  • Medical sharps such as needles, syringes, lancets, sharp medical devices, finger prick sticks, diabetic sharps, lancets, epi-pens, insulin pens, infusion sets or anything with a needle or prick object.
