Universal City is set to welcome a new dining option as Frank’s Pollo Asado Los Norteños announces plans to expand, taking over the former Rapid Fire Pizza space at 121 Pat Booker Road.
Known across the San Antonio area for its charcoal-grilled, achiote-marinated chicken, Frank’s Pollo Asado Los Norteños traces its roots back to 2006, when the concept began as a family-run food trailer on Rigsby Avenue. The original operation was launched as a fundraiser to support the construction of a new church in Nueva Rosita, Coahuila, Mexico, with the entire Garcia family pitching in, including children, siblings, and extended relatives.
Owner Frank Garcia later established his own locations after splitting from the original Rigsby Avenue operation, which is now owned separately. Under Garcia’s leadership, the brand has grown steadily, earning a reputation for traditional Northern Mexican–style pollo asado prepared with a family recipe passed down through generations.
Today, Frank’s Pollo Asado Los Norteños operates two dine-in locations in San Antonio, at 1551 Applewhite Road, Suite 121, on the South Side and 4822 Walzem Road on the city’s Northeast Side. The upcoming Universal City location marks the brand’s continued expansion beyond San Antonio city limits.
The restaurant prides itself on grilling chicken fresh on-site, marinating it the same day using high-quality ingredients and traditional techniques. Alongside its food, the business emphasizes community involvement, fast and friendly service, and creating a welcoming environment for both customers and employees.
“From day one, our mission has always been to be a benefit to our community,” the business notes. That approach has helped the brand grow organically through word of mouth and customer loyalty, even earning recognition on platforms like TripAdvisor without intentional pursuit.
With the new Universal City location, Frank’s Pollo Asado Los Norteños aims to bring its signature “People’s Chicken” to a broader audience while continuing to honor the family values and traditions that have defined the brand for nearly two decades. Opening details for the Pat Booker Road location are expected to be announced in the coming months.
On another note, Frank’s Pollo Asado Los Norteño’s at their Walzem location are celebrating their 1 year anniversary on January 9th.
