Food bank to honor George Floyd with day of service

Eric Cooper, the CEO of the San Antonio Food Bank shares a message to the community “on the death of my brother.”

“The food bank doesn’t accept poverity, we don’t accept depression and we don’t accept hunger,” said Cooper in a video message. “What we offer is love. We offer solutions. We offer people coming together to make sure no one feels alone, no one feels afraid and our community is nourished. Let us nourish those in suffering. Let us be more kind. Let us reach out to the Black community and let them know we love, together we’ll get through this.”

The food bank is opening opportunities for volunteers

โ€œI am calling our community to join me in a day of service on Tuesday, June 9, to honor the life of George Floyd. Knowing that so many want to do a physical act of love that honors Mr. Floydโ€™s life, I am inviting our community to join me in serving those in need in our community on the day his family will hold their private funeral service.” Cooper said in a statement.

“The Food Bank will open up extra volunteer opportunities, including a mobile pop-up distribution at Traderโ€™s Village, to make room for all those who might want to join us in this day of service and love.”

For those who want to sign up for a volunteer shift can do so at this website.
June 9th marks when Floyd returns to his hometown of Houston, Texas to be laid to rest.
